Soundgirl

Review by Lucy

About

Soundgirl was birthed in 2005 in New York City with an innovative idea, to combine fashion with music.

Soundgirl designs clothes specifically for women who are either musicians, work in the music industry, or simply just love listening to music. It didn’t take long before Soundgirl starting getting coverage in magazines such as Alternative Press and Teen Vogue, and popping up in major fashion shows in the US and in countless popular TV shows such as the O.C and Grey’s Anatomy.

Not only does Soundgirl produce a cute and colourful range of all things wearable, it keeps up with the latest music news with a weekly online newsletter that includes tour dates and exclusive interviews with artists, as well as producing a free downloadable compilation CD with new music four times a year.

We are smitten with their range, and the fact that when we’re asked about our cute dress, we can tell a little story about music and fashion. Nice.

Design

Soundgirl prints are subtle, often involving feminine patterns on a charcoal background with the sleek look of a boutique designer label. Soundgirl also produces a lot of classic items, such as simple no-print cocktail dresses with a neat belt. And yes, they are one of a kind. Let’s make this clear, you won’t find imitation prints popping up in Targét, Supré or your local markets two weeks after you’ve bought a dress. Firstly, because Targét hasn’t heard of Soundgirl. Secondly, because Soundgirl is selective about who it distributes too. Thank God, if you have a Soundgirl product, you’ve got something special – Autumn's is the only place in Australia where you can find Soundgirl.

Price

A little more on the pricey side. Not so expensive that its high end fashion, but no so cheap that it loses shape after a couple of wears. The pieces range from about $30-$160, with dresses around the hundred dollar mark. Your paying for quality and one-of-a-kind-ness.
